Tigers manager trying to help MVP candidate reach rare milestone

– Now that the Kia Tigers have booked a ticket to the championship series in South Korean baseball, manager Lee Bum-ho can breathe a little bit and tweak his lineup however he sees fit — to give some regulars much-needed rest and, in case of one particular player, offer an opportunity to reach a rare milestone.

The Tigers clinched the best record in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) regular season on Tuesday. At 83-52-2 (wins-losses-ties), they can lose their remaining seven games and still finish in first place.

They have another piece of business to take care of. Third baseman Kim Do-yeong, the MVP front runner, had 37 home runs and 39 steals before playing the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Thursday. He is three homers and one steal away from becoming only the second player in league history, after former NC Dinos slugger Eric Thames in 2015, with 40 homers and 40 steals in one season.
